When a Mercedes-Benz Key Fob Battery Needs Replacement

There are several warning signs to take note of that can indicate your Mercedes-Benz key fob battery is losing power. Initial warnings can include:

  • You may have a harder time starting your vehicle. If it takes multiple attempts or a few minutes, you could be due for a new battery.
  • If you’re no longer able to lock and unlock your doors or set off your panic alarm.
  • If you notice a warning sign on your dashboard that indicates an issue with the charging system, that can mean you are losing battery power in your key fob.

Replace Your Mercedes-Benz Key Fob Battery

When you need to change the battery in your Mercedes-Benz key fob, there are only a few steps that you need to follow:

  • Determine Your Key Type: You could either have a Chrome Key or a Smart Key, and your key type impacts how you change the battery.
  • Get the Right Batteries: The newer Chrome Key only needs one CR 2025 battery, and the older Smart Key needs two.
  • Smart Key: For the Smart Key pull the latch at the end of the key holder, stick your key horizontally into the open slot, and lift the battery compartment out to replace the batteries.
  • Chrome Key: When changing a Chrome Key battery, pull on the tab at the bottom, push the key into the narrow end of the slot to remove the cover, and replace the battery.
