2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA Reviews: Performance

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA boasts a standard turbocharged 2.0-liter I4 that generates 221 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque on Ladue streets. Front-wheel drive is standard. Here’s what the automotive professionals have to say about the GLA performance:

Motortrend: “The engine is eager to respond and gives a smooth whoosh when prodded,” head of editorial Ed Loh said.

CNET: [The Mercedes-Benz] eight-speed dual-clutch transmission is a joy, especially in the SUV’s Sport mode, where it holds gears longer to wring out all the engine’s power. There are paddle shifters, but the transmission works fine on its own.

2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA Reviews: Interior Features

The interior is where the facelift on the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA really shines. Here’s what Frontenac drivers can anticipate:

Car and Driver: Rear-seat passengers are treated to almost five inches of extra legroom, as well as increased space for shoulders and elbows. This will help the GLA compete more directly with key rivals, such as the Audi Q3, BMW X1, and Volvo XC40.

Motortrend: Step inside, and the MBUX infotainment system gets your immediate attention. With two 12.3-inch screens, the cabin looks modern and sophisticated, and it gives a great first impression. Once the sun sets, the interior vibe channels an Ibiza nightclub, with ambient lighting that changes colors to turn up the mood.

Edmunds: The cabin is significantly improved over the existing GLA, both in its materials, quality, and space. If you’ve sat in an A-Class sedan, you’ll be familiar with the smart finishes on elements such as the air vents and the buttons in the center console. There’s a lot more headroom than before too, and that’s transformational for the driver and front passenger. You sit higher, with a better view through the taller and less severely raked windscreen.
